While at Rehoboth Beach today with my family I saw some dolphins. There was five or six of them in a tight formation just off of the beach. They were playing more than the kids were playing. It’s neat watching how social they are. If you can see in the pictures, check out all of those scars on their backs. When I got home I looked up the difference between dolphin and porpoise. The teeth, body size and length along with dorsal fin shape are all different. Since I could only see the fins I used that to identify these mammals as dolphins. Dolphins have a wave shaped dorsal fins and porpoise have a triangle shaped fins similar to a shark. I think these look like waves to me so I’m going with dolphin.

  1. They are so much fun to watch. It’s one of the joys of sitting on an ocean beach, when they come swimming by!!
